National sports talk radio normally isn’t a source of information about networking. However, this past week, Colin Cowherd on ESPN Radio’s “The Herd” radio show, brought up something that all networkers and those wanting to succeed need to have and practice.
Discipline.
That’s right,good old fashioned, nose-to-the-grindstone, focused discipline. Doing it right the same way and always. Colin’s point was that successful people, and in his case in point, football coaches and athletes, who take the time to focus on a routine, almost always seem to rise to the top. Eating right and consistently, always working out, studying and reading regularly…sounds like what a focused business person or networker should be doing, eh?
Being on committees, attending and promoting events regularly, keeping up with those in your LinkedIn, Facebook and other networks are all attributes of the successful networker. Be consistent, be clear, be on time.
